PRIDE!... but make it social work!

I currently am employed full-time for a training and technical assistance company, creating and providing unique opportunities to learn about the community our grantees serve. During my on-site training with the Houston Police Department Cold Case Division at the Montrose Center in Houston, I had the privilege of delving into the rich history of the LGBTQIA community and its invaluable service to society. The Montrose Center is an organization dedicated to empowering and supporting LGBTQIA individuals, and it serves as a hub for resources, education, and advocacy.

Throughout my training, I immersed myself in the vibrant and diverse history of the LGBTQIA community. I learned about significant milestones, events, and movements that have shaped the community's struggle for equality and acceptance. From the Stonewall Riots in 1969, which ignited the modern LGBTQIA rights movement, to the ongoing fight for marriage equality and transgender rights, I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced and the progress made by the community.

The Montrose Center provided a comprehensive overview of the services they offer to the LGBTQIA community. I learned about their counseling and mental health programs, which provide essential support to individuals navigating issues related to identity, coming out, and discrimination. Additionally, I discovered their youth programs, which create safe spaces for young LGBTQIA individuals to connect, seek guidance, and develop their sense of self.

I had the opportunity to engage with the stories and experiences of LGBTQIA individuals who have made significant contributions to the community and society at large. Through various exhibits and presentations, I learned about activists, artists, and leaders who have paved the way for greater acceptance and equality. Their courage and resilience in the face of adversity were truly inspiring.

Witnessing the Montrose Center's dedication to providing inclusive resources and support left a lasting impression on me. It highlighted the importance of creating safe spaces and promoting understanding and acceptance for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The training emphasized the significance of ongoing advocacy efforts to protect the rights and well-being of the LGBTQIA community.

My on-site training at the Montrose Center in Houston was an enlightening and transformative experience. It deepened my knowledge of LGBTQIA history, instilled a deeper sense of empathy and compassion, and reinforced the importance of fostering a more inclusive and accepting society. The Montrose Center's commitment to empowering and serving the LGBTQIA community left me inspired to contribute to the ongoing fight for equality and justice for all.

Love & Light,

Roicia
